Nominator's project description

Professor Zapperi is an international authority in the theory and modelling of complex systems. He made important contributions to non-equilibrium transport processes, and to deformation and failure of disordered materials. He also developed novel approaches towards understanding the role of mechanical processes in the functioning of biosystems. In Germany, Professor Zapperi will focus on the development of novel approaches to failure prediction in materials and geosystems, new design templates for failure resilient additively manufactured materials, but also on mechanical processes in biosystems including mechanical aspects of carcinogenesis.
