Nominator's project description

Professor Pen is a leading astrophysicist and renowned internationally for his creative and novel ideas that bridge the areas between theoretical and observational astrophysics. He has pioneered new methods such as “intensity mapping”, which allows astronomers to probe the large-scale structure of the universe, and “scintillometry”, where astronomers use the interstellar plasma as a cosmic magnifying glass. In Germany, Professor Pen plans on applying his methods to a variety of topics such as detecting low-frequency gravitational waves using radio pulsars.
