Nominator's project description

Professor Franz is well known internationally for his pioneering contributions to just-in-time compilation and optimization. He invented the "Trace Tree Compilation" technique and – in a joint project with the Mozilla Foundation – the first JavaScript just-in-time compiler which was incorporated into the Firefox browser and had several hundred million daily users at its peak. He is also one of the founders of the "moving target defenses" paradigm in computer security. During his stay in Germany, Professor Franz will be focusing on cyber security topics, especially on security for the so-called Internet of Things, 5G mobile devices and automotive security.
