Nominator's project description

Professor Kimura is an internationally renowned solid earth geochemist, particularly well-known for contributing to understanding magma genesis on Earth. He has made important contributions to developing sophisticated computer codes that use state-of-the-art geochemical principles. Thusly, the origin of mid-ocean ridge basalts, ocean island basalts, and large igneous provinces as well as subduction zone magmatism can be understood. During his stay in Germany, Professor Kimura will apply these computer codes to GEOMAR’s large geochemical data sets on unique rock collections from a variety of tectonic environments on Earth.
