Nominator's project description
| During the last two decades Professor Antoni Llobet provided pioneering contributions to the field of water oxidation catalysis which constitutes an important elementary reaction for water splitting into solar fuels. Here, with a clever ligand design he could accomplish the catalytically most active ruthenium catalysts and develop metal catalysts based on the non-precious and earth abundant transistion metals cobalt and copper. His most recent achievements include the construction of electro- and photoanodes as well as photoelectrochemical cells that are capable of solar water splitting. The collaborative research aims at the advancement of metallosupramolecular architectures for artificial photosynthesis. |
