Nominator's project description
| Professor Rainey is well-known internationally for his seminal studies in the pathophysiology of arterial hypertension. High blood pressure is the main non-communicable disease responsible for most cardiovascular morbidity and mortality worldwide. Professor Rainey’s research focuses on the adrenal gland, the major stress regulator of our organism. It has shown that the adrenal acquires somatic gene mutations over the course of our lifetime, and that this leads to hyperplasia, abnormal hormone production and high blood pressure. During his stay in Germany, he will extend his research to other entities of the adrenal gland, using combinations of morphologic and genomic studies to lay the basis for new treatment approaches of hypertension. |
