Nominator's project description
| Professor Zhu is an international authority in the field of in situ small-scale mechanical testing. He developed the first apparatus for testing nanomaterials inside electron microscopes and performed pioneering experiments that have led to a mechanistic understanding of how size and surface effects govern the mechanical properties of nanowires. In Germany, Professor Zhu intends to expand his techniques to discover fundamental deformation processes of advanced alloys at atomic resolution. |
