Nominator's project description

Professor Dearing is a world leader in animal nutritional ecology. Her research has been critical in understanding how mammals are able to feed on plants that produce high levels of toxic defense compounds. In Germany, she continues her pioneering work on the role of the microbes present in animal guts in detoxifying plant defenses.
