Nominator's project description
Professor Colón-Ramos is well known internationally for his outstanding research in neuroscience and cell biology. A fundamental question in neuroscience is how synapses are assembled in living animals to produce behaviors and store memories. Professor Colón-Ramos discovered concepts that reframed how we understand the cell biology of the synapse in vivo, including developmental principles that guide the precise and hierarchical assembly of the layered nerve ring neuropil. During his stay in Germany, he will study biophysical principles of membraneless compartments in energy metabolism. |
