Nominator's project description

David Wolff has fundamentally enriched the way scholars view Russia´s pointed East, in his own writings, in the collective works that he has helped produce, and by encouraging the release of historical documents that had long remained invisible, both in and about Russia. Professor Wolff's work always involves the physical and mental crossing of boundaries. He has made profound contributions to social, cultural, political, diplomatic and intelligence history that range across a long 20th century. During his stay in Germany, his research will focus on Russia`s relations with China, Japan, Korea, and Russia`s Far East.
