Nominator's project description
Professor Rappaport Hovav is an international authority in the fields of lexical semantics, argument structure and argument realization. She has been developing an approach to verbal meaning, according to which roots come with a kind of ontological categorization, which provides an interface between the grammatical system and the more fully articulated conceptual system. In Germany, she will continue her research on the construction of verb meaning by looking at cases of a root appearing in variable verbal environments, and cases of a root displaying semantic variability independent of the syntactic environment as well as the relationship between roots and conceptual content. |
