Nominator's project description

Professor Frontera, an international leading authority in applied theoretical chemistry, is developing new bonding concepts at the borderline of molecular and supramolecular main group and transition metal chemistry. He has made inspiring contributions in various fields such as reactive intermediates, catalysis, carbohydrates, anion recognition in enzyme chemistry, crystal engineering, battery research and weak interactions between metals. He has developed the concepts of “tetrel-bonding”, “σ-hole-π interactions“ as well as „spodium bonds“ which have enabled to gain further insight into new modes of weak interactions. In Germany, he will continue his work on catalysis and supramolecular chemistry with special emphasis on weak interactions
