Nominator's project description
Professor Majumdar is a world-leader in the mathematics and modelling of liquid crystals and their applications in science and technology. She has made important contributions to the analysis and applications of the Landau-de Gennes theory for nematic liquid crystals, the theory of liquid crystal defects, multistable liquid crystal systems, and more recently, solution landscapes for liquid crystalline systems. She also has a breadth of outstanding mathematical expertise in the theory of nonlinear partial differential equations, analysis, and mathematical modelling. She will use her time in Germany to study connections between different variational models in materials science, to expand her research programme into multiscale modelling of materials which could be highly relevant for futuristic designer materials technologies. |
