Nominator's project description

Professor Keasling is a pioneer in the field of synthetic biology. He is known for engineering microbial metabolism to generate robust hosts able to produce valuable compounds, such as biofuels, commodity chemicals, and pharmaceuticals, under various industrial conditions for a broad range of applications. His latest work on natural product synthesis allows the conversion of simple renewable resources into molecules dearly required in the pharma industry. In Germany, Professor Keasling focuses on optimizing strategies, especially on the terpenoid synthesis and metabolic engineering of pseudomonas as host organisms.
