Nominator's project description

Professor Wang is an international authority in the field of heavy-ion physics. He has made important contributions to understanding the properties of the quark-gluon plasma, a novel phase of nuclear matter which can be created in heavy-ion collisions. Professor Wang has studied the attenuation of fast particles in such matter, enabling ‘tomographical’ studies of its properties. During his stay in Germany, he intends to study the polarization of particles in heavy-ion collisions, which constitutes a new class of observables for the quark-gluon plasma.
