Nominator's project description

Professor Hoefler is the pre-eminent computer scientist working at the intersection of high-performance computing and earth-system modelling. He has made foundational contributions to every aspect of high-performance computing software design: from new optimization methods based on data-centric approaches, the innovative use of AI for optimization and data compression, and contributions to libraries at the heart of massively parallel computations. In Germany, he will be working to develop next-generation climate simulation infrastructures that incorporate new AI architectures and algorithms to make climate simulations more performant and efficient.
