Nominator's project description

Professor Agard is internationally recognized as a leading expert on subduction zone processes, which shape Earth’s surface and are linked to natural hazards such as earthquakes, tsunamis, as well as to the formation of ore deposits. His research has advanced understanding of crustal detachment from subducting plates and the role of mechanical coupling of temporal and spatial scales. During his stay in Germany, he will study field sites that preserve evidence of seismic-fluid activity to improve models of Earth’s solid dynamics from plate tectonics to earthquakes.
