Federal President Steinmeier to receive Humboldtians in Schloss Bellevue

As part of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation's annual meeting, nearly 600 international researchers will be received by Germany's Federal President on 28 June.

They come from Brazil, China and the USA, from Great Britain and Nigeria, Jordan and Nepal: nearly 600 international researchers from almost 80 countries who are currently guests at a German university through a sponsorship from the Humboldt Foundation are expected along with their families in Berlin on 27 and 28 June. The annual meeting of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation serves to bring Humboldtians together and encourage exchange between them.
The highlight will be a meeting with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in the park of Schloss Bellevue on 28 June. Before the reception, Federal President Steinmeier will present the 2018 Philipp Franz von Siebold Award to the Japanese legal scholar Kanako Takayama.

The annual meeting will be held at the Freie Universität Berlin (FU) and will be opened by the President of the Humboldt Foundation, Hans-Christian Pape, and the Vice-President of FU, Klaus Mühlhahn. The internationally renowned diabetes expert and Humboldt Professor Matthias Tschöp, Director of the Institute of Diabetes and Obesity at the Helmholtz Zentrum München (German Research Center for Environmental Health) and professor at the Technical University of Munich will hold the keynote speech on "Not so sweet: Can we stop the diabetes epidemic?" Following the speech, Humboldtians will report on their experiences in Germany.
The Humboldt Alumni Awards to foster academic and cultural ties between Germany and the alumni’s home countries will also be presented during the opening ceremony.

The researchers will be available on both days for interviews regarding, for example, living and conducting research in Germany and their respective home country or about their particular research projects.

Journalists are cordially invited to attend. It is permitted to film, photograph and make audio recordings. We shall be happy to arrange interviews. Please register for accreditation by Wednesday, 27 June, 10:00 am to attend the reception hosted by Federal President Steinmeier.
