Introductory seminar

During a three-week introductory seminar in March, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation invites you to acquaint yourself with the prevailing social, political, economic and historic aspects of climate protection and climate-related resource conservation in Germany and connect with other members of the group and with multipliers. The programme of events includes discussions with public figures, visits to companies, research institutions, public authorities etc., and cultural events.

Annual meeting

The annual meeting takes place every summer (June/July). All Humboldt research fellows of all disciplines and from all countries who are in Germany at the time are invited to this meeting along with their families, as are the Feodor Lynen Research Fellows who returned four years previously. The event provides opportunities to meet the current “Humboldt Family” in Germany and exchange views with partners of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and Foundation staff.

The highlight of the annual meeting is the traditional reception for the attendees held by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Study tour

This two-week training course in the autumn conveys practical knowledge and management skills in the field of climate protection and climate-related resource conservation. The programme consists of classes as well as guided tours and excursions.

Final seminar

The final seminar offers you the opportunity to discuss your results and reflect on the sponsorship year. The programme of this event includes a meeting with representatives of the Federal Foreign Office, a certificate presentation ceremony in Berlin and further discussions with national and international multipliers.

Network meeting (for postdocs)

Regional network meetings for newly arrived research fellows and Feodor Lynen Research Fellows who are about to travel abroad or have recently returned take place several times a year. These events are not open to fellows’ families. The meetings take place at a German university. Their purpose is to

  • Introduce you to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and its individual sponsorship opportunities,
  • Provide information on university institutes and the academic and higher education system in Germany, including in comparison with higher education systems in other countries,
  • Introduce you both to other fellows and to the staff of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation,
  • Provide insights into conditions in Germany in discussions within groups organised according to country and discipline.
