Extension of the fellowship

If the project originally proposed cannot be brought to a meaningful conclusion in the time available, application may be made to extend the fellowship immediately following the fellowship period. Prospective leaders working practically can extend the duration of their sponsorship by up to three months. Postdocs can extend their sponsorship up to a maximum total duration of 24 months. The extension period may however not be longer than the originally approved period.

Extensions to pursue a new research project or a new topic that has developed from the original research project cannot be approved.

Under certain circumstances, you may also apply for an extension of the research fellowship in the context of further support for families or if you have a disability (see Guidelines A.2.6.3.2. and A.2.6.3.3. or A.2.7.).

A corresponding application should be received by the Foundation three to four months before your research fellowship ends.
