16th Brazilian-German Frontiers of Science and Technology Symposium

24 – 27 September 2026 / Goiania, Brazil

The Brazilian-German Frontiers of Science and Technology (BRAGFOST) Symposia are a series of interdisciplinary, binational conferences jointly conducted by the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES) and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Funding on the German side is provided by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space.

The conference brings together around 60 outstanding young researchers from Brazil and Germany working in different fields of sciences and engineering. They share knowledge across disciplines and take the opportunity to work on future Brazilian-German cooperations. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation supports such collaborative work with its special follow-up programme CONNECT which funds working visits in the partner countries for up to 30 days.

This year’s symposium will frame the topic AI for Good: Global Responsible Innovation and Business Transformation, and the following main areas will be discussed:

•    Empowering SMEs with AI: Bridging the Innovation Gap
•    Generative AI for Next-Generation Education, Research, and Knowledge Transfer
•    Trustworthy AI in the Era of Large Language Models
•    Synthetic Data for Trustworthy AI: Foundations, Modalities, and Responsible Development

The program has been elaborated by the co-chairs of the conference – Dr. Evelyn Reinmuth (University of Hohenheim) and Prof. Dr. Arlindo Galvao (Federal University of Goias) – in collaboration with the scientific organizing team from Brazil and Germany.

Participation is by invitation only.

This symposium is part of the Frontiers of Research Programme of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The Foundation regularly convenes bi- and tri-national Frontiers of Research Symposia in cooperation with its partner organisations in Brazil, China, Japan, India, Israel, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
