Nominator's project description
Professor Yang is honoured as a well known translator who has translated many poetic works from German into Chinese, whose works have initiated a Goethe Renaissance, and whose treatises have opened the door to West-European literature. He is known as a scholar who understands translation as a free rendering of poetry, and philology as a vocation, and who, by comprehending the extrinsic, attempts to promote cultural understanding and to compare the wisdom of Confusius with that of Goethe. |
