Mathematics
Marc Levine's outstanding, innovative contributions to his subject, not least his recent Theory of Algebraic Cobordism, have elicited a huge response and been recognised in numerous awards, including the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s Wolfgang Paul Award in 2001. Levine will become one of the directors of the proposed Institute of Algebra at Duisburg-Essen University, drawing on previous stays in Essen. Levine will thus contribute to covering a broad palette of mathematical methods which will be unique in Germany and, indeed, can only be found at very few other places in the world.
Brief bio
Prof. Dr. Marc Levine, born in the USA in 1952. Study and PhD in the USA; 1979 to 1984: Assistant Professor in Philadelphia; 1986 to 1988 Associate Professor in Boston, subsequently, Full Professor; numerous guest professorships, particularly in the USA and Germany; Wolfgang Paul Award Winner (2002) and Humboldt Research Award Winner (2006) in Bonn and Essen.
