The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Jordanian Royal Scientific Society are jointly organising the first Frontiers of Science and Technology Symposium for researchers from Germany, the Middle East and North Africa. From 14 to 16 November, more than 50 researchers in the engineering and applied sciences will get together in the capital of Jordan, Amman.
“Scientific collaborations contribute to economic and social progress as well as international stability and are thus especially relevant in times of upheaval and conflict,” says the Foundation’s President, Robert Schlögl. “No discipline and no country can master the challenges we face today on their own. By holding the Middle East and North African-German Symposium we are creating an interdisciplinary platform tailored to the region and we connect the next generation of researchers with Germany.”
With its new networking format, the Humboldt Foundation is looking to trigger long-term cooperation between Germany and the MENA region in research, innovation and industrial implementation. In interdisciplinary forums, the participants will discuss how AI-supported technologies, more sustainable materials and green innovations can contribute to resilient, human-centred industrial transformation.
To promote continued scientific dialogue and sustainable contacts, the Humboldt Foundation will subsequently offer participants subsidies for working visits lasting up to 30 days.

The Frontiers of Research Symposia
The overarching goal of the Frontiers of Research Symposia is to facilitate long-term bi- and multilateral collaborations designed to strengthen academic relations between Germany and the respective partner countries. To date, this format has been implemented in cooperation with Brazil, China, India, Israel, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The new symposium is open to participants from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, the Palestinian Territories, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunesia and the United Arab Emirates. It will be held annually, alternating between Jordan and Germany.
The programme is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space.
