Partners, funders and finances

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is a legally responsible foundation under civil law. Its statutory mission is to promote science and research as well as intercultural understanding.

The Humboldt Foundation is funded by the Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety as well as other national and international partners with whom it cooperates. See below for an overview of all partners and funders.

In 2016, the expenditure for the purpose of fulfilling the Foundation’s mission  was approximately €116.2 million of which approximately 96 percent derived from Federal Government grants and the European Union (see diagram).
