The budget cuts announced for 2024 will have a significant impact on the alumni sponsorship programmes of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. We ask for your understanding that not all applications can be approved. When making its decision, the Foundation takes particular account of any alumni sponsorships granted to date and the applicant's career phase.

The Research Group Linkage Programme is an alumni support tool, combining various activities, designed to establish a sustainable basis for long-term international academic collaboration between alumni of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation programmes abroad (please see current list of countries (PDF)) and academics in Germany. Such cooperations should also integrate (doctoral and post-doctoral) junior researchers as potential candidates for a research fellowship of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Joint research projects can be sponsored with a funding amount of up to €55,000 over a period of up to three years. The funding may be used to finance reciprocal research visits lasting up to three months a year, conferences and workshops, consumables, printing costs, and, to a limited extent, academic auxiliary staff and equipment for the institute abroad. The collaborative partner’s home institution in Germany is eligible to receive an administrative flat-rate of up to a total of 15% of the funding amount granted. Please refer to the programme information for further important information.
