163 young international researchers from 38 countries in Regensburg
Fellows’ meeting of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the University of Regensburg from 25 to 27 April
More than 160 young researchers from 38 countries will be guests at the University of Regensburg from 25 to 27 April 2018 for the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s networking meeting. The researchers are currently in Germany as Humboldt Fellows and are working together with German colleagues at research institutions throughout the country. The meeting is being held to introduce the new Humboldtians to one another and to Regensburg - representatively for Germany as a location for conducting research. Employees of the Foundation will be on hand to provide advice on living and conducting research in Germany.

The meeting will begin at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 25 April, when the President of the University of Regensburg Udo Hebel and Thomas Hesse, Deputy Secretary General of the Humboldt Foundation, welcome the attendees. This will be followed by a keynote lecture on "More from the Sun with the Help of New Materials and Supercomputers" by phsyicist David Egger, a 2016 Sofja Kovalevskaja Award Winner of the Humboldt Foundation. Egger heads the working group Computational Materials Science at the University of Regensburg.
On Thursday, 26 April, the Humboldtians will visit research institutes in Regensburg where the young researchers will have the opportunity to network among themselves and with their German colleagues. The Fellows will present their research subjects during a poster session at 3 p.m. (Zentrales Hörsaalgebäude, Universitätsstraße 31, 93053 Regensburg). The Humboldt Foundation will additionally present its profile and programmes to all interested parties in an information presentation at 3:30 p.m (Vielberth-Gebäude, Hörsaal 26).
Most of this year’s participants come from the natural and life sciences (98), followed by 40 participants from the humanities and social sciences, and 25 from engineering. The majority of the foreign guests are from China (26), Italy (11), and Brazil, India, Iran and the USA (8 each). Seven participants are currently conducting research in Regensburg.
