This year, for the sixteenth time, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation has granted awards to single out Humboldtians abroad for innovative networking ideas. The winning initiatives are forging new paths for deepening academic and cultural ties between Germany and the home countries of the individual Humboldt Alumni and strengthening the alumni networks there.
This year’s Alumni Awards go to Humboldtians from the Czech Republic, Ecuador and India. An environmental initiative to restore forests in the tropical Andes and strengthen the ecosystem in South America, an educational initiative in India and Germany that gets pupils enthused about the natural sciences with the help of classroom experiments, and a networking initiative to foster a culture of critical historical remembrance in times of populism and fake news were selected for the honour.
The awards were presented at the opening ceremony of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s Annual Meeting in Berlin. Visit here for short portraits of the awardees and their networking initiatives.
Interested Humboldt alumni have until 30 November 2025 to apply for a 2026 Humboldt Alumni Award. The award comes with up to €30,000 for developing the networking initiative. This funding is financed by the German Federal Foreign Office.
