Helmut Schwarz to receive Leonardo da Vinci Award

The Humboldt Foundation congratulates its former president, Helmut Schwarz, on being selected to receive the 2021 Leonardo da Vinci Award from the European Academy of Sciences (EURASC).

With this award, Schwarz is being singled out for his research in the field of molecular chemistry. The award ceremony will be held on 21 May as a virtual event.

The molecular chemist Helmut Schwarz was the president of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation from 2008 to 2017. Following his degree in chemistry, Schwarz received his doctorate at Technische Universität Berlin in 1972 where he completed his habilitation in 1974 and was appointed professor for theory and practice of mass spectrometry four years later. Helmut Schwarz has been a Professor for Organic Chemistry at TU Berlin since 1983.

Since 2009, the European Academy of Sciences has annually awarded the Leonardo da Vinci Award to scientists in honour of their outstanding lifetime achievements in the scientific field.
