Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden
| Professor Weber is an internationally renowned scholar of literature, an author of several books on literary theory translated into many languages. With interests ranging from Dreudian psycho-analysis to philosophical aesthetics and from cultural semiotics to media theory, Professor Weber has worked in areas of 20th centruy studies where innovative and provocative insights were often created by academic outsiders or exiles who blended various national traditions tof thought with each other and juxtaposed them to each other in order to conceive of the world in a yet different light. In Professor Weber's outstanding oeuvre, the violent and tragic history of 20th centruy literature and cultural critique has left many a mark. In his writing and in other scholarly activities he has worked incessantly to bring American, German and French academic communities into contact: by translating major scholarly works and explaining their specific cultural contexts; by organizing international conferences on cultural theories; by teaching and lecturing at many universities in Europe and elsewhere. He is going to spend his time in Munich working on a new book project on media theories and teaching in a new Ph.D. programme on Literary Studies. |
