In vapour phase deposition of inorganic thin films, Professor Dr. Jochen Schneider developed a method of tailoring the properties of nanocrystalline oxide coatings by means of fully ionized plasmas, where he elucidated the role of small impurities on film structures and properties. At RWTH Aachen, he will extend this work to correlate film properties with plasma and precursor parameters taking advantage of the experience and equipment available in Professor Neuschütz¿s laboratory with respect to thin film electron spectroscopy and pulsed plasma techniques.
