Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden
Joachim Herz is a world-leading molecular biologist. His research focuses on a family of molecules on the surface of nerve cells which play a key role in both brain development and development of Alzheimer disease. Joachim Herz' earlier works have convincingly demonstrated the decisive role of this genetic family in brain development and how it controls the migration of newborn nerve cells in the cerebral cortex. The results of this reseach are outstanding contributions in the understanding of how APOE receptors control the brain's regeneration capacity. This provides the basis for new future drugs which will protect the brain from aging processes and reduce the consequences of accidents and strokes. |
