Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden

Professor Francisco is an outstanding member of the international Atmospheric Science Community. By using quantum chemical methods he predicted the properties of many short lived species of atmospheric interest. Later he and others detected these species in laboratory experiments and included their behaviour in atmospheric models. Fluorinated ethers are currently under consideration as third generation of alternative halocarbon compounds. However, there is a lack of understanding of the chemistry involving these species. In collaboration with Professor Willner, University of Duisburg (now Wuppertal); a complete picture of their degradation and coupling chemistry will be studied for assessing the long-term environmental impact of these materials of various wide-ranging applications.
