By mimicking the principles of nature, Dr. Stefan Hecht created functions of biological systems in artificial ones. He discovered the first light-driven catalysis within a dendrimer and substantially furthered the understanding of core size and structure role for encapsulation of reactive centers as well as of the superior ability of dendritic moieties to serve both as insulating shelles and as functional units for energy harvesting. In the future, Dr. Hecht is going to develop combined synthetic and supramolecular strategies for the bottom-up approach to the nanosciences - a field with ever increasing relevance for modern societies.
