Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden
Professor Markus Aspelmeyer from the University of Wien, Austria Professor Aspelmeyer is one of the pioneers in Optomechanics. This is a new field within physics: The combination of mechanical devices and coherent optical systems gives rise to new perspectives for ultra-sensitive force sensors. Macroscopic structures can be brought into states that are governed by the laws of quantum mechanics, a theory usually used to describe single atoms, molecules, and photons. In joint work, Professor Aspelmeyer will explore fundamental aspects of the fuzzy boundary between the quantum and the classical worlds. |
