Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden

Professor Daniel Schwartz is one of the leading scholars in ancient Jewish history. His works on the Second Temple period and on hellenistic Jewish literature have opened up new perspectives in our view of ancient Judaism and the background of early Christianity. With his commerntary on 2 Maccabees - the first one in modern Hebrew - Schwartz has bridged the gulf between North American, European, Israeli scholarship. His projected English commentary will become a highly innovative and most detailed interpretation of his hellenistic Jewish work.
