Professor Michael Geyer, Samuel N. Harper Professor of German and European History at the University of Chicago, is one of the leading authorities on German history in the English speaking world. He is especially well known for his innovative work on war, civil war and genocide, but he has also commented widely on questions of memory and culture as well as on the structure of twentieth century German history in general. With his colleague Charles Bright he is just publishing a comprehensive iNterpretation of "The Global Condition in the Long Twentieth Century". Currently he is working on a study of German defeat and its aftermath in World War I and World War II. Professor Geyer is hosted by Professor Konrad H. Jarausch at the Zentrum für Zeithistorische Forschung in Potsdam.
