Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden
| Professor Devroye receives the Humboldt Award for his fundamental contributions to the theory of mathematical statistics and theoretical computer science. He is responsible for major progress in the theory of nonparametric estimation and its application to pattern recognition. His fundamental ideas connecting the theory of branching processes with the analysis of algorithms lead to an important and very active research area between mathematics and computer science. The cooperation with the universities in Frankfurt, Freiburg and Kiel is focussed on algorithms and random trees. |
