Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden
| Nikolai Reshetikhin is one of the world's leading scientists on integrable systems. His work on quantum integrable systems and their connection to statistical mechanics and other branches of mathematics and physics is of outstanding importance. The integrable structure of the quantum mechanical models makes it possible to calculate scattering amplitudes and other physically relevant quantities explicitly. These systems are thus the first examples of relativistic non-linear quantum field theories that admit a complete mathematical treatment. In addition to his groundbreaking contributions to this theory, Reshetikhin's work on the symmetries of quantum-integrable systems created a whole new branch of mathematics: the theory of quantum groups. Nikolai Reshetikhin is also known for his pioneering contributions to other branches of mathematics, especially the theory of knot and link invariants. |
