Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden
| Professor Babes is an international authority in the study of heat/cold and pain sensation. He investigated cold-sensitive nerve cells (neurons) and described for the first time a novel type of cold-sensitive neuron with rapid adaptation to cooling stimuli. Recently, Professor Babes’ research activities were focused on light-induced pain and itch in various human genetic diseases, involving TRP ion channels. In Würzburg and Erlangen he continues his research on TRP ion channels and their possible indirect activation by light. |
