Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden
| For the past forty years Professor Peter Uwe Hohendahl has been an influential intellectual mediator between Germany and the United States. His extensive scholarly work has centered on German and European literature from the eighteenth to the twentieth century and questions of literary and social theory. His recent writings on the history and present state of the university and especially his essays on the relationship between Humboldt's idea of the university and the development of the American research have been important contributions to the present German-American dialogue on higher education. His research project seeks to reexamine the role of conservative thought in post-war Germany. In particular, his research will focus on Carl Schmitt and Ernst Juenger and their significance for the present debate on totalitarianism. |
