Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden

Dr. Bianca Poggianti is one of the most influential researchers in the field of galaxy evolution in clusters. She studied how galaxies transform between the time when the universe had only half its present age and today. Among her most prominent results are the discovery that more massive galaxies in clusters complete their star formation activity sooner than less massive galaxies, and the presentation of direct evidence for the influence of the intergalactic medium on galaxies falling into a cluster. During her visit, Dr Poggianti plans to work on the interpretation of a large galaxy data set we recently obtained together at the European Southern Observatory.
