Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden
| Roberto Car is well known internationally for his outstanding research in physics and materials science. He has made important contributions to the theory and understanding of condensed matter, including (bio-)molecules, clusters, nanostructures, solids, and liquids. In particular, he pioneered (in collaboration with Michele Parrinello) the combination of density functional theory with molecular dynamics which has proven to be a powerful method to study atomic-scale dynamics in materials. In Germany, his research focuses on the physics of water and on novel methods to study quantum transport in molecular electronics. |
