Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden

Professor Janet Richmond has pioneered the neurophysiological analysis of the nematode C. elegans, a major model organism in the life sciences. She was the first biologist - and still is one of only a handful - to combine genetics and electrophysiology in order to study synaptic transmission by nerve cells in C. elegans. Through her groundbreaking work, Professor Richmond has characterized key steps in the neurotransmitter release process at nerve cell synapses. In Germany, she will study basic mechanisms of nerve cell function and their perturbations in disease models.
