Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden

Professor Raimond's scientific work has been devoted to the exploration and illustration of fundamental properties of quantum physics. He contributed to the development of experimental techniques, based on Rydberg atoms and millimetre-wave cavities, making it possible to observe the interaction of a single atom with a single photon. The results of these experiments can be interpreted in terms of the most basic quantum postulates. They contribute to our understanding of entanglement, quantum measurement theory, and decoherence processes. They can also be used as prototypes of basic quantum information processing systems. Professor Raimond works at Laboratoire Kastler Brossel in the physics department of Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS). Besides, He has been one of the editors in chief of European Physical Journal D and he is now a Divisional Associate editor in Phys. Rev. Lett.
