Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden

Professor Tamm is an international authority in the field of membrane biophysics. His research focuses on the molecular mechanism of membrane fusion which is an important event of infection of host cells by enveloped viruses such as the influenza virus, HIV, and Ebola virus. In particular, Professor Tamm is interested in the three-dimensional structures of proteins mediating fusion and other processes in membranes. He was the first to unravel the three-dimensional structure of a membrane protein by solution nuclear magnetic resonance, a breakthrough in protein research. In Germany, he continues his research on the molecular mechanisms of cell entry with a focus on the Ebola virus.
