| Professor Yu is a renowned cancer researcher and a noted expert on the cancer-promoting protein STAT3, a protein that plays a critical role in converting healthy cells into cancerous ones. She was the first to uncover and define the protein's effect on the immune system and to validate STAT3 in animals as a target for cancer therapy. Her pioneering research has laid the foundation for a new generation of molecular targeted cancer therapy approaches, including a potential new drug targeting STAT3. During her stay in Germany, she will be testing therapeutic strategies based on her discoveries in an autochthonous cancer model of virus-induced hepatocellular carcinoma, which closely resembles the human situation. |
