Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden
| Professor Margaret E. Roberts from the University of California, San Diego, USA Professor Roberts’ research has been decisive in understanding the mechanisms behind online censorship. In her work, she has reverse-engineered the Chinese censorship system leading to novel insights into the strategic use of censorship in autocratic regimes. At the same time, Professor Roberts has done important work to advance new methods of automated text analysis in political science, which are becoming ever more important in the age of digital communication. In Germany, she continues her research on strategies for content moderation, this time in a democratic context, studying popular social media platforms used by billions of people. Professor Roberts is hosted by Professor Yannis Theocharis at the Technical University of Munich and Professor Nils Weidmann at the University of Konstanz. |
