Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden

The pioneering scientific contribution of Professor Jensenius is the molecular characterization of a new anti-micorbial system in innate immune defense. This so-called lectin pathway of complement activations is initiated by serum molecules recognizing sugars displayed on microorganisms but also on tumor cells. Genetically determined deficiency in theses defense molecules predisposes for infections. Since the may also play an important role in tumor defense we will investigate whether these molecules could present a therapeutic modality for tumor patients with such deficiency.
